Slipknot / Stone Sour Frontman Corey Taylor ‘About at 95 Percent’ After 2016 Spinal Surgery

More than a year after undergoing spinal surgery, Corey Taylor has almost completely recovered from essentially sustaining a broken neck. In a new interview, the Slipknot / Stone Sour frontman claimed he’s “about at 95 percent.”

Last year, Slipknot were forced to reschedule a handful of shows so Corey could get his spinal operation taken care of. After resting for a couple of weeks, Taylor returned to the stage wearing a neck brace, unable to jump around or headbang. A year later, Corey started headbanging again while performing with Stone Sour, finally able to properly let loose onstage.

Taylor addressed his current physical state during an interview with Razor 94.7. “I’m doing okay — slowly but surely making progress. I’m about at 95 percent,” Taylor says. “I had [the surgery] about a month or so after I quit smoking, so that’s my grade. It is what it is. When you have a surgery like that, you can’t do all the stuff that you usually do physically, so I gained a little bit of weight and stuff, so I’ve been trying to fight that off, and I’m kind of still trying to find that flexibility. But you’ll see tonight — it’s still a physical show. I’ve gotten it back for the most part, but I’m still working on it.”

“We’re running all over the stage, [doing] a lot of headbanging,” Taylor adds. “I’ve got my swivel back, which is cool. Our goal is to be that crazy-attitude party band, like Van Halen. That’s what we wanna be — that band that you come to see and have fun, and yet it’s still tough, it’s still got that attitude. That’s what we’re into.”

Stone Sour are currently on tour with Korn, bringing Babymetal, Skillet, Yelawolf, Ded and Islander with them on rotating dates. For full tour details, click here.
