The National Weather Service in Norman is predicting significant severe storms across Texoma Tuesday afternoon, evening and into the night.

Wichita Falls and Lawton areas have been upgraded to a moderate risk of severe storms starting late afternoon. Counties west of Wichita Falls and Lawton should also stay severe weather aware.

The biggest threat from the storms that may form today are baseball-softball sized hail, strong wind, and possible "significant" tornadoes.

A storm system approaching from the west and moist, warm air from the Gulf of Mexico are expected to form a long line of storms starting in the Texas Panhandle and western Oklahoma stretching south.

Most storms are expected to move northeast at 45 mph with the severe thunderstorms reaching the Wichita Falls area sometime between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm. All severe storms should be clear of the area overnight.

Of course, the weather can change in an instant. "It's never straightforward when you're sitting here talking about (predicting) large tornadoes," Storm Prediction Center meteorologist Matt Mosier said. "We're trying to be as confident or as accurate as we can."

Due to this high threat of severe weather today, it is very important that you stay up to date on the weather situation in your area. You can watch the radar on our weather page here, and of course, we will keep you updated about any watches and warnings on-air and on our Facebook page.
