Shinedown Covers Album Delayed by Bon Jovi

Earlier this year Shinedown frontman Brent Smith and guitarist Zach Myers announced that they would record and release ten acoustic cover songs chosen by their fans, which would include music by the Clash, Phil Collins and Metallica. Well it seems like the duo is having a little trouble getting the proper authorization to release the songs in an album.

Myers claims that “It was going to come out and it was going to be no problem.  It looks really cool, sounds really cool, and then we wanted to release it as an album too. That’s when you get into publishing – you have to get permission. And two of the artists were like, ‘We don’t like anyone covering our songs.’ I’m not going to say who… Bon Jovi… and so that was kind of that.”

So Bon Jovi is the reason why my favorite band won’t be giving me a new album for Christmas all because he won’t let them use his song “Wanted Dead or Alive.” Hopefully he’ll get over it and give the group the go ahead on the album.

Some of the best (and my favorite) Shinedown songs are the acoustic versions, so you know the album will rock when it is finally released.

Myers went on to describe making the album saying, “It was so much fun, Brent‘s such a good singer – I love hearing him sing songs that aren’t ours. Nothing Else Matters by Metallica took three takes. Everything else was like one take or two takes. We did In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins. We didn’t rehearse it, I just kind of started playing, and he started singing it, and it became this kind of special moment. It’s really, really cool.”

Now it’s just a waiting game for all fans. But no need to worry, Shinedown has already performed a few of the songs during their concerts and you can see them perform Adele’s “Someone Like You” below. You can also check out the track listing for the album below.

1. Sitting On the Dock Of The Bay – Otis Redding
