Beer, the cause of and solution to, all of life's little problems.

Every state has some weird laws that are on the books for some reason or another. However, if you're talking about beer, you definitely have my attention. Lets get down to it by starting in the south.

In Alabama you couldn't legally bottle beer more than 12 oz., until 2012 when they changed the law so they could sell 16 oz. bottles. This does mean that 40 oz. bottles are still not allowed in the state of Alabama. So no playing Edward Forty Hands with your friends. That is where you duct tape two forty's to your friends hands and he has to finish the beer before you can take them off. Sucks to be you Bama.

Florida law states that beer must be sold in containers either smaller than 32 ounces or larger than 128 ounces. Stuck in the middle is the industry-standard growler size of 64 ounces. You can just buy two 32-ounce growlers though, but wheres the fun in that. I want to drink my beer in the biggest bottle possible.

Maine takes St. Patrick's Day very seriously. During the week you can get beer in that state from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. Except on Sundays where beer sales start at 9 a.m. Maine had a dilemma on its hands one year when Saint Patrick's Day fell on a Sunday. What did they do? They passed a bill creating an exemption allowing 6 a.m. Sunday alcohol sales only if St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Sunday. Hell yeah Maine I am wanting my 6 am green beer fix as well.

A law is in place in Indiana where grocery stories, convenience stores and pharmacies can only sell warm beer. That's right, no going to the fridge at 7-11 for a nice six pack. Unless you want to wait a few hours for your beer to get nice and cold sitting in your fridge at home. Liquor stores in Indiana are allowed to sell cold beer though, that way you are not forced to drink warm beer.

Many states have actually banned Happy Hour. Massachusetts was the first, Illinois, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Utah as well. Kansas at one point had banned happy hour, but they brought it back in 2012. I can understand the point of banning Happy Hour, a bunch of people are trying to drink as much cheap alcohol as they can during that allotted time. Believe me, I have gone to some crappy bars in this town when I was in college just because they had dollar beers some days.

In Colorado supermarkets and convenience stores can only sell beer that is 3.2 percent ABW (alcohol by weight) or lower. So if you're wanting a stronger beer got to go hit up a liquor store. Kind of funny to think a state that legalized marijuana has a problem with stronger beer.

In Utah if you're at a restaurant drinking, you must also have food in front of you. It would be like if I just wanted to go to Parkway and just have a big beer. Nope, not in Utah. This law has a lot of controversy as you could imagine. Waiters can now serve beer while patrons "look over" the menu. So if you don't want food just ask for a menu I guess.
