WFISD School Bond Passes

The second time was a charm for the Wichita Falls ISD.  Voters approved the bond 59 percent to 41 percent.  The $59.5 million bond will fund a new career and technical training center, renovations at all three junior high schools and will fund long overdue renovations to parking and restrooms at Memorial Stadium.

The bond won in early voting, with 2,232 votes for and 1,628 against. Including Election Day totals, 5,595 people cast votes on the bond issue, with 3,320 for and 2,275 against. In total $63.5 million in projects and improvements will cost taxpayers $59.5 million. Board members allocated $4 million from the WFISD fund balance to lower the cost to voters.  The career and technology center is scheduled to be completed by the beginning of the 2017 school year.

Wichita Falls ISD Board President Trey Sralla commented on Saturday's results:

We are just thrilled and encouraged that the voters of Wichita Falls have entrusted us with this task that we asked for and had faith in the school district to do the right thing.  This is a Wichita Falls win. It's good for our town and our community.

 

In Wichita Falls municipal elections, Michael Smith won the At-Large council position. Stephen Santellana won the District 1 council seat.  Deandra Chenault won the Council District 2 seat.
