‘Look Around’ by the Red Hot Chili Peppers is starting to make its way around radio after having been released as a digital single back in January. The song is the third single from 2011′s ‘I’m With You,’ following ‘Monarchy of Roses’ and ‘The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie.’

Musically, it’s pretty solid. Guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, who replaced John Frusciante in 2009, works great with Chad Smith’s tin-can drums and Flea’s bassline, which is reminiscent of Michael Jackson’s ‘Smooth Criminal.’ Producer Rick Rubin gives everybody their own space so their collective instrumental prowess is on full display.

As for the lyrics, well, it’s an uptempo song by the Chili Peppers, so it doesn’t really matter what they’re saying as long as it sounds cool. Besides, they’ve always been much more tolerable when Anthony Kiedis doesn’t try to bring elements like melody into the song. So to have a return to the half-singing, half-rapping style he perfected on ‘Give It Away’ is a relief after 13 years of hearing ‘Scar Tissue’ and five of ‘Snow (Hey Oh)’ on the radio.

The band is currently playing arenas all across America. Their current tour will conclude at the Bonnaroo Festival on June 9. Following a two-month break, they will go back on the road before finishing up on November 1 at Milwaukee’s Bradley Center.
