Red Hot Chili Peppers Bassist Flea to Release ‘Helen Burns’ Solo EP
Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea has revealed that he will be releasing a solo EP titled ‘Helen Burns.’ Flea promises that the EP will sound like nothing you’ve ever heard him play before, and will feature guest vocals by iconic singer-songwriter Patti Smith.
As Red Hot Chili Peppers were finishing up their ‘Stadium Arcadium’ tour, Flea began to record what would become ‘Helen Burns,’ finishing the project in only a matter of days. He announced via his Twitter page, “I am putting out an EP I made myself in a couple of days. It is obscure arty mostly instrumental music, except when Patti Smith sings.” Flea continues, “It is not RHCP music or even close to it. It is a trippy freakout.”
All the way back in 2008, Flea spoke about the EP to the LA Times. “It’s not really a commercial enterprise, it’s not going to be on rock radio or anything. The record is based on the character Helen Burns from ‘Jane Eyre.’ I love Charlotte Bronte and all of the Bronte sisters.”
In another tweet, Flea revealed, “On ‘Helen Burns,’ I play trumpet, bass, synthesizers, drum machine, piano, and a bunch of other s–t.”
Flea’s upcoming EP will be available “at any price you want to pay,” and all of the proceeds will go straight to the Silverlake Conservatory of Music in California. Limited edition, autographed copies will also be made available for $75, which will also come with a piece of a bass string used by Flea at a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert.
Flea’s ‘Helen Burns’ EP is expected to be released within the next couple of days, so stay tuned for when the record becomes available for purchase.
