Papa Roach Deliver Acoustic Version of ‘American Dreams’

Back in May, hard rock veterans Papa Roach unleashed their ninth studio album, Crooked Teeth. It showed the band still had a lot of bite (har har) in their music, resulting in crunchy tunes that were sure to please any fan of the band. Above all, it was packed with solid songwriting as evidenced on this new acoustic version of “American Dreams.”

It’s an interesting take on the original, still carrying over a lot of the original pop that made it memorable in the first place. Jacoby Shaddix still raps on the song, the acoustic instruments providing a lot less of a barrier between the listener and the lyrics for a new take.

It’s been a killer couple of months for Papa Roach in the midst of Crooked Teeth. At their recent appearance at Rock on the Range, the group brought out a pretty unique guest to help them out with “Born for Greatness.” Attendees certainly weren’t expecting it, but the group performed the song with Olentangy Orange High School’s Marching Pioneers in front of their screaming fans for an incredibly memorable event.

In a recent interview, Jacoby Shaddix spoke about the implications nu-metal had as a genre. He pointed out a lot of the genre’s hatred correlating with Limp Bizkit‘s Fred Durst, “A lot of people didn’t like Fred Durst — really and truly,” he says. “That was real bad, and everybody was hating on him. And he was kind of, like, [imitates Durst] ‘Why do you wanna hate me?’ And so, he was kind of the poster boy for the genre, and so if people wanted to take pot shots at it, it was easy, you know? But I got nothing but love and respect for him.”
