In the modern age where huge album sales figures are largely a thing of the past and certifications aren't doled out at nearly the pace they used to, some bands still manage to reach significant sales heights. A slew of bands have received Gold and Platinum certifications within the last few weeks, including A Day to Remember, Hawthorne Heights, Volbeat, Halestorm, Lamb of God, Ozzy Osbourne and Five Finger Death Punch.

Beginning on Feb. 1 of this year, the RIAA changed their format for album certifications to include streaming for on-demand audio and video. An album shifting in excess of 500,000 units receives a Gold certification while records that move one million copies are certified Platinum. Hard rock and metal albums that were recently certified Gold are A Day To Remember's Homesick and What Separates Me From You, Hawthorne Heights' If Only You Were Lonely, Volbeat's Beyond Hell, Above Heaven, Halestorm's The Strange Case Of... and Halestorm and Lamb of God's Ashes of the Wake.

Platinum status is rarely achieved in the industry today, though Five Finger Death Punch's War Is the Answer and Ozzy Osbourne's The Essential Ozzy Osbourne have both received the certification this year. With streaming factored in, 1,500 plays on an accredited streaming platform equates to one album sold.
