Obituary Goes Viral: Man Described as a Ladies’ Man and Foodie

(Photo by Jeff J Mitchell/Getty Images)

When Harry Weathersby Stamps passed away on March 9th, his family did as many others do and wrote his obituary. It’s not your average obituary, however, and it’s gone viral. In it, Stamps is described as a ladies’ man and foodie who liked his “buttermilk served in martini glasses garnished with cornbread.”

The obit describes Stamps as an interesting man who was a member of the bacon of the month club, excelled at “eradicating mole crickets from his front yard,” and wants to see more people get behind the movement to banish Day Light Savings Time. It also describes things that he hated, such as “Law and Order (all franchises), cats, and Martha Stewart.”

Additionally, readers are given the ingredients to his favorite sandwich, with the obituary stating:

Harry was locally sourcing his food years before chefs in California starting using cilantro and arugula (both of which he hated). For his signature bacon and tomato sandwich, he procured 100% all white Bunny Bread from Georgia, Blue Plate mayonnaise from New Orleans, Sauer’s black pepper from Virginia, home grown tomatoes from outside Oxford, and Tennessee’s Benton bacon from his bacon-of-the-month subscription. As a point of pride, he purported to remember every meal he had eaten in his 80 years of life.

Amanda Lewis, daughter to Stamps, talked with the Huffington Post about the obituary. They asked how Stamps would have reacted, and she replied:

He would have thought that was a disease he contracted, which would have excited him to have another illness to lord over folks.

It would seem that interesting obituaries are become more common. Two others have gone viral over the past year, with one man confessing his deeds and another admitting that he drank too much and raised hell his entire life.
