Those of you who regularly go for a little extra speed on U S Hwy 82 in Clay and Montague counties, you’re about to be legalized.   Well, at least up to 75 mph.

The speed limit on US 82 West of Henrietta will increase to 75 MPH beginning Wednesday, March 6.  According to TxDOT’s Adele Lewis, U S Hwy. 82 (in Clay, Montague, and Cooke County ) between Henrietta and Lindsay will change from 70 to 75MPH.   The speed will decrease through the city of Ringgold, Nocona, and Muenster.

A new law went into effect September 1, 2011 allowing roads that were signed 70 MPH to be considered for an increase to 75 MPH. After a series of traffic and speed studies, it was determined that many State and US highways in the Wichita District of TxDOT should be converted.  The Texas Transportation Commission approved the speed limit change in December. 9,000 miles across the state are part of this round of increases.

Lewis reminds motorist that the speed limit changes are not officially in place until the new signs are up.
