Metallica are serving up an interesting look at their past, honing in on the 30th anniversary of the landmark Master of Puppets album. Largely regarded as one of the best metal albums of all time, if not the best, the album is rich with history. Metallica: Back to the Front takes a close look at the album and subsequent tour through exclusive photos from the band's personal archives and elsewhere along with countless interviews.

After revealing plans for the book over a year ago, the thrash titans have now revealed the cover art (seen below) and expect Metallica: Back to the Front to see a fall 2016 release. Photos were compiled not only from the band, but from crew members, tour openers Anthrax and Armored Saint and fans of the group. The interview portion was especially detailed. Author Matt Taylor tracked down members of the road crew during the Master of Puppets tour, producer Flemming Rasmussen and Michael Wagener who mixed the record, booking agents and promoters.

Perhaps the most enticing of all, the book will include a lengthy interview with bassist Cliff Burton's father, Ray. The tour in support of the band's major label debut on Elektra was also the last for the legendary Burton as he was killed in a bus crash during the band's touring.

Metallica have a big 2016 in front of them, hoping to get their new album out before 2017 rolls around. Giving small updates from the studio, the biggest news came from guitarist Kirk Hammett who stated the album is shaping up to sound similar to their last effort, Death Magnetic.
