Metallica has announced dates for the Orion Music + More festival for 2013. It'll take place in Detroit, Michigan on June 8th and 9th. Ticket and lineup information will be announced in February.

The festival took place last year in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and they sold 24,000 tickets for the two day event. In addition to bands playing, attendees also got to enjoy a custom car show, a film festival tent, a horror memorabilia display, and a surfing exhibit.

Earlier this year Lars Ulrich explained in an interview why Metallica wanted to do a festival of this kind:

Four years ago we played Bonnaroo in Tennessee, and that was like the first time we did something that had that kind of European flavor in America, and we thought it was really, really cool. And we thought, there are 75,000 people there that were digging it, and we thought that maybe that kind of vibe could actually work in America, and maybe that we could carve out our own little niche and try to see if we could get something off the ground.
