Megadeth released Dystopia at the beginning of 2016, with the disc quickly becoming heralded as one of the best albums of their storied career. Naturally, the band netted their 12th Grammy nomination and the group is hoping it will culminate with their first victory. Excited at the shot to receive the prestigious gramophone award for Best Metal Performance, frontman Dave Mustaine has reflected on the possibility.

“Last time we were nominated I was at the awards talking with Kenny G. and I said how we’d been nominated a lot, but hadn’t won it yet," Mustaine began. "He said, ‘Don’t feel bad, it took me 21 times to win my first one!’"

Continuing, the vocalist / guitarist added, "This has been such an incredible year for Megadeth. With so many milestones and so many individual and group awards, to now have this honor of being nominated again is the grand finale to the most perfect campaign. We are very appreciative and thankful to all of our peers and contemporaries that are voting for the 2017 Grammys.”

Megadeth received their first Grammy nomination back in 1991 for their brilliant and game-changing Rust in Peace album, following it up the next year with a nod for the song "Hangar 18." In all, the thrashers received seven nominations throughout the '90s, their last being in 1998 for "Trust." It would be another 12 years before they were in contention once again with "Headcrusher" in 2010.

While fans have no control over who will win at the 2017 Grammys, we've served up a readers poll where you can vote for who you believe should win in the Best Metal Performance and Best Rock Album categories.
