When digging through Kurt Cobain’s archives, Montage of Heck director Brett Morgen unearthed 200 hours of audio created by the late Nirvana frontman. Some of that previously unheard music will appear on an upcoming album, which we have now learned will arrive on Nov. 6 via Universal Music -- the same day as Montage of Heck’s DVD release.

The album, which has yet to receive a title, has been described as a Cobain “solo album” and will feature all of the music included in the documentary, home recordings and a “sketch comedy routine.”

“I assembled it and passed it over to the various other people,” Morgen said of the album. “It feels like you’re in Kurt’s house, watching him create. You’re eavesdropping on him… in the most positive sense of the word, with a great deal of sensitivity, too.”

In another interview, Morgen noted, “It’s not a Nirvana album, it’s just Kurt and you’re going to hear him do things you never expected to come out of him.”

Montage of Heck had a limited release in theaters earlier this year before premiering on HBO in May. The film recently received an Emmy nomination for Best Documentary or Nonfiction Special.
