A while back, Jenna Marbles did a video about what Disney movies have taught her. She breaks down the message that many kids may get from those movies, most importantly that little girls should grow up to disobey their parents, meet a prince, live happily ever after, but be dependent on someone else. I agree, that’s a fantastic message.

This week, Jenna is continuing that train of thought by talking about what kid shows have taught us, from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Barney. Let’s not forget the Teletubbies. I’m not really sure why anyone ever watched the Teletubbies…

When you look at children’s programming, it really is horrifying when you break them down. Sure, they’re entertaining and we loved them growing up, but the message then was definitely different than it is now. A cartoon such as Star Blazers was originally made overseas and the story lines were changed a bit so as to not be so violent for American viewers, but it still showed things blowing up and people dying.

I like the programming of yesteryear. I liked watching Oscar the Grouch hanging out in his garbage can(yes, I realize he’s still on television today) and Fraggle Rock and the Smurfs, with their overtly sexual references to Smurfette. Stuff like that is fun.

Now, for the adults, we have programming like South Park and Family Guy to whet those cartoon cravings. Do kids watch those shows? Yes. Do they get what in the hell is going on? Probably not. Are they teaching me anything bad? Absolutely. I love it.

***Jenna likes to speak her mind and likes dropping the F-bomb. If you’re offended by such language, this may not be the video for you.***
