Does this mean all those chain restaurants can get rid of their crappy birthday songs? Yes, THANK GOD!

If you never worked in a restaurant before, I suggest doing it. It makes you very humble and you won't ever disrespect someone who messes with your food ever again. If you have seen the movie 'Waiting', I can assure you, some of that stuff does go down in the kitchen. Maybe not showing each other your balls, but the messing with the food stuff for sure.

The other part in that movie that they nailed was the birthday singers part. No one likes doing it because you can't sing the normal 'Happy Birthday' song. You have to sing your corporate birthday song because someone owned the rights to the 'Happy Birthday' song. Until now!

According to the opinion on Tuesday from U.S. District Judge George H. King, "Because Summy Co. never acquired the rights to the Happy Birthday lyrics, Defendants, as Summy Co.’s purported successors-in-interest, do not own a valid copyright in the Happy Birthday lyrics."

The ruling means that Warner/Chappell will lose out on $2 million a year in reported revenue on the song. All I care about, this puts an end to those awful corporate birthday songs. I hope everyone working for a restaurant corporation sent out a memo this morning putting an end to those songs.
