A 30-year-old guy from suburban Chicago, Randy Schmitz, was on vacation in Myrtle Beach, S.C., last summer.

He went to the Pepper Palace, which sells crazy hot sauces. The hottest sauce it sells is Flashbang, a combination of four peppers -- Carolina Reaper, scorpion, ghost pepper and habanero.

Schmitz had to sign a waiver just to try a tiny bit of the sauce on a toothpick as part of a challenge.

The challenge is you put some on your tongue and you can't drink water for five minutes.

While Schmitz completed the challenge, he was hurting pretty badly in doing so. So, he sat down on a bench outside, puked, passed out and had a seizure.

Schmitz awoke hospitalized. While in the hospital, doctors found he had a 2½-inch brain tumor. They believed it might have caused a seizure eventually, but, thanks to the hot sauce, they found it early, Chicago's WGN-TV reported.

Schmitz had surgery, chemo and radiation and now he's cancer free, The Chicago Tribune reported.

He recently wrote the folks at the Pepper Palace to thank them for saving his life.

They responded by sending him a year's supply of the hot sauce. How nice of them!
