Every town, every city has its issues and most have some perks. And some are better than others. Here’s our list of five things that we love about this city.

    Location, location, location!

The most consistent gripe we hear about Wichita Falls is “There’s nothing to do here”. That is, of course, completely false. But if you just have to have more, Wichita Falls is in the middle of Oklahoma City and Dallas, about two hours either way. So you’re close enough to the ‘big city’ to find whatever you feel eludes you here and still call Wichita Falls ‘home’.

Sunshine; lots and lots of sunshine.

One of the reasons that Sheppard AFB is in Wichita Falls to this day is the excellent flight training weather. Wichita Falls averages 240 days of sunshine annually, compared to the national average of 204. So if the sun is what you crave, few other locations can deliver as consistently as Wichita Falls.

    Restaurants every 100 yards.

Ok, maybe not quite that many, but plenty to be sure. The list of Wichita Falls dining choices seems to just keep growing and growing.  We have locally, family owned fare such as The Deli Planet, Pioneer, Parkway Grill, McBride’s and Branding Iron, but we also enjoy some of the most popular national brands, like Chick-Fil-A, Texas Roadhouse, Jason's Deli and Red Lobster, just to name a few.

    Traffic issues? Not here!

Barring the occasional fender bender that may snarl things on Central Freeway or the Lloyd Ruby Overpass from time to time, Wichita Falls has no traffic issues to speak of.  And even at peak traffic times like 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm, travel is fast even compared to places like Amarillo or Abilene. For a city with a daytime population that can push the 300,000 mark, the fact that you can be almost anywhere in Wichita Falls in 10 minutes should be a huge plus in anyone’s book.

Wichita Falls is just a very friendly place.

Last but certainly not least on our list is the very friendly nature of Wichita Falls. It’s rare to say hello to a stranger on the street here that does not say hello back. As I said at the beginning of this article, every city has its issues. Yes, there are some jerks among us, but on the whole, the people who live in and around Wichita Falls are among the friendliest you will ever meet. And who wouldn’t want to live in a town where the people are basically good to one another?  That aspect alone can make the rough edges of our society a bit easier to live with.
