Corey Taylor Back to Headbanging a Year After Surgery; Offers Timeline for Slipknot Return

It was roughly a year ago when Corey Taylor had to undergo spinal surgery, forcing Slipknot to delay the start of their tour with Marilyn Manson. The frontman performed with a neck brace during the summer trek, as he was under doctor’s orders not to headbang.

Loudwire Nights host Toni Gonzalez caught up with Taylor a few weeks ago at Rock on the Range, a day after his band Stone Sour had played their first show in a long time. She asked the singer how he is doing now, a year later, and he replied, “I’m doing OK. Last night was the first real time that I tried any kind of headbanging during a show … It’s been a very weird roller-coaster year for me, but last night I felt OK. I mean, I felt 43, but I did OK. I didn’t look like a pile of s–t onstage.”

Taylor went on to say that he is no longer smoking, which has helped his voice, and that he considered the Stone Sour concert the night before “one of the best shows I’ve ever had as a singer.”

With Stone Sour in full support mode for their upcoming album, Hydrograd, it means extended downtime for Slipknot right now. When asked about a timeline for Slipknot’s return, Taylor replied, “Maybe another year and a half. There’s nothing that says we probably won’t get demos and stuff together … When the time comes, maybe in a year or so, we’ll start putting together new music and we’ll kinda see what happens.”

For more on Taylor’s surgery recovery and the timeline for Slipknot’s return, check out the full video interview above. Stone Sour’s new album, Hydrograd, arrives on June 30, and can be pre-ordered here. Fans can catch the band on tour with Korn this summer. See the dates here.
