Check Out What Your Tax Dollars Are Being Used For

How would you like to hear that all of that money you pay in taxes are going to good use? Well if your waiting on me to say that your tax dollars are being wisely invested in our nations education, health and infrastructure just stop reading now, but if you would like to know how your money is really being used go ahead and keep reading.

Thanks to a new report by CBS News, we now have a five minute Star Trek Parody created by the IRS to better train their employees. The video wasn’t easy to get though since the IRS doesn’t want us to know how they are wasting our money, CBS News had to file a Freedom of Information request asking for the video after the IRS earlier refused to turn over a copy to the congressional committee that oversees tax issues. The video was made in 2010 and according to the IRS, was going to be used to open their training and leadership conference.

And if it wasn’t enough to make one bad parody, how would you like to know that they also made a Gilligan’s Island parody? Both videos together cost around $60,000 of tax payers money. And where did they film these videos? In the IRS’ own television studio in New Carrollton, MD of course, which may have cost tax payers up to $4 million last year alone.

IRS Acting Commissioner Steven Miller said in a statement that one of the two videos was played in 400 locations and saved taxpayers $1.5 million over what it would have cost to train employees in person.

So is it worth it or just another waste of our hard earned money? Especially since the government is suppose to be finding ways to reduce the budget deficit.  I don’t feel that the IRS needs their own TV studio, add on the fact that the videos aren’t that great I feel like they could have spent a weekend shooting it in someones garage rather throwing money away on a studio.

So since you’ve paid for these videos you might as well get a few good laughs out of them while cursing the IRS under your breath, so check them out below and feel free to express your opinions in the comment section below.
