Black Label Society, Down, Devil You Know + Butcher Babies Rock Golden Gods Tour
The 2014 class of the Revolver Golden Gods tour tore through The Palladium in Worcester, Mass., last night (May 8) like a tornado, living up to the name on the marquee. The titans of metal packed the house for a show that offered up enough raucous revelry and riffs that would have made Atlas himself proud.
Boasting four bands on the massive bill, the Revolver Golden Gods tour makes for an eclectic mix of young bloods in the form of Butcher Babies, second chances with Devil You Know and seasoned vets in the form of Down and headliners Black Label Society.
Butcher Babies kicked the night off on a high note, fueled by the onslaught of dual frontwomen Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey. The two catapulted from one side of the stage to the other, stopping only briefly to head bang and throw out devil horns. While their set was short, it left a permanent mark.
The night would prove extra special for one of the evening’s artists though – Devil You Know frontman Howard Jones made his triumphant return to New England and his hometown crowd after his departure from Killswitch Engage and lingering back issues. Admitting he wasn’t sure he’d make it back onstage to perform ever again, the metal purist savored every moment – stopping more than once to thank the crowd and reflect on time spent attending shows at the Palladium throughout his life.
With Pantera and Corrosion of Conformity shirts spotted around every corner, Down hit the stage next delivering an hour of blistering metal that elicited almost instant crowd surfing and circle pits. Frontman Philip Anselmo commanded the stage like the pro he is, leaving fans hoping for a little more when their set was over. Good news though — Anselmo would be back!
The evening culminated with Zakk Wylde and Black Label Society taking their stance against a wall of Marshall stacks – a visual cue that what was about to come next would be loud, in-your-face and unapologetic. Wylde and company delivered on all of those promises, throwing in a few bonus rounds for good measure. Fans who stuck around until the end of the show were in for quite a surprise when Anselmo joined BLS to perform the Pantera tune ‘I’m Broken.’ Watch fan-filmed footage of the performance here and check out our photos from the show below.
