Nothing says "God Bless America" like a 4,000 lb. chunk of mechanized steel flying through the air.

While the rest of us stuffing our faces with barbecue and popping fireworks on our nation's birthday, some folks up in Alaska upped the ante by sending cars flying to celebrate Independence Day.

This year was the first time they successfully launched three vehicles, with only one malfunctioning and running into a parked bulldozer. While they only started launching cars in 2005, the party, organized by Arnie Hrncir, started back in '96 with this year boasting the largest crowd ever with 550 people attending.
