In one of the most bizarre stories you're likely to come by today, accused murderer Leroy Smith III attempted to somehow involve Slayer into his case. Due to Smith's delusional ramblings regarding Slayer, along with testimony from his attorneys and Maine's director of the State Forensic Service, the defendant has been deemed incompetent to face trial.

Leroy Smith III has been charged with the murder of his father, Leroy Smith Jr. The 56-year-old was found dismembered and placed in a dumpster back in May 2014. On Jan. 5, the 25-year-old accused murderer attended a competency hearing that ended after Smith claimed a gun was held to his head in 2011 while the entire Slayer lineup was present. He also claimed late guitarist Jeff Hanneman had committed suicide shortly thereafter.

"The fact of the matter is in 2011, I had a gun put against my head and was sworn to keep secret of what I am and they refused investigating any persons that are responsible for this," Smith stated. "The whole entire music group Slayer was there. I was told that what they did was too overboard. I sent them a message on Facebook and that Jeff Hanneman, the guitarist, takes his own life. He took his own life May 5 of 2013.” At this point, Justice Donald Martin stopped Smith's ramblings, saying he'd accept anything Smith has to say in writing through his attorneys. For the record, Hanneman died on May 2 of 2013 due to cirrhosis of the liver.

As for Smith's claim of "what I am," Maine's director of the State Forensic Service Dr. Ann LeBlanc explained to the court after evaluating the accused killer. “He had delusions that he thought he was God, grandiose delusions he was the best guitarist in the world,” LeBlanc said. According to CentralMaine.com, Smith also had delusions that people associated with heavy metal and thrash metal bands were out to kill him.

"He [Smith] believed that the function of his attorneys was primarily to seek out various heavy metal bands and famous guitarists and gather them together so that he could speak to them," LeBlanc added.
